I am an overgrown pony-mad teenager! Horses are a passion in my life.
Having failed to get sufficient A levels (that dates me) to get into Vet School, I got a degree in Physiology, Biochemistry and Nutrition of Farm Animals before striking off in a completely different direction by joining the Police.
Nearly seven years of pounding the beat was enough for me, so when I discovered a ‘back person' for one of my own horses I thought ‘I can do that'. The rest is history!
I studied full time for 4 years to gain my human chiropractic degree (I no longer treat people), followed by the 2 year part time Post-Graduate Diploma in Animal Manipulation at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic. I have done short courses in equine sports massage therapy and craniosacral therapy, of which I also include elements in my treatment. I have been working with animals now for over 7 years.
I have ridden since the age of 6, and currently have 3 horse with whom I have a lot of fun.
Over the past decade or more, I have developed a particular interest in saddle fitting – initially due to problems with my own horse (yes, I've been there, 2 years and 5 saddles later...), and more recently with clients. I have done the Society of Master Saddlers' Foundation Course, and have a good knowledge of conventional and alternative approaches to saddle fitting.
I have ridden on courses with Mary Wanless, and studied her 'Ride With Your Mind' technique over the past 12 to 14 years. Though currently not accredited as a coach, I have attended her teacher training courses on three occasions. Together with my experience as a chiropractor, this means I can advise riders on bodywork and rider biomechanics. This can benefit both horse and rider enormously whatever their standard or competitive experience.
I am sympathetic to followers of ‘natural horsemanship', and have a good understanding of barefoot hoof care and bitless riding.
My big aim is to improve the quality of life for our domestic horses with holistic bodywork, horsemanship and horsemastership'. |
